Sodium Monochloroacetate is the sodium salt of monochloroacetic acid, and its
chemical formula is C₂H₂ClNaO₂. It is a white crystalline powder or granular
substance that is highly soluble in water. Sodium monochloroacetate is derived from
the chlorination of acetic acid, followed by neutralization with sodium hydroxide.
It may be toxic ingestion or inhalation. It is used to make weed killers, dyes and pharmaceuticals.
